Holey Grail's donuts are all plant-based and made-to-order, with “taro” as our starch. Taro is the English word for the sacred Kalo plant, an ancient superfood revered for its nutritional, medicinal and ecological benefits.
Our taro root is pounded and fermented to create the most delicious base for our proprietary dough. We only source Hawaiian-grown taro. The taro is hand-harvested, cooked, and then pounded with water. We make our own dry mix from scratch and add it to our dough, mixed fresh all day long. The fermentation from the taro makes our donuts unlike any other — like a cake donut with yeast-raised features. Then we lightly fry the donuts in organic coconut oil, creating an irresistible crisp. Coconut oil celebrates Hawaii while providing a healthier alternative to traditional hydrogenated oils and shortenings used in other donut shops. We're always foraging for new rebellious flavors and ingredients like wild-harvested strawberry guavas, locally-grown cacao nibs, finger limes (also known as “citrus caviar”), and night-blooming dragon fruit.
Donation: 15 percent of sales from our Original Sin (Hawaiian vanilla bean, maple, sea salt) at the pop-up go to DOG PPL's Canine Rescue Club.
